Foundation:
The Daytona Beach Kiwanis Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization
which was developed in the early 1990's to allow for tax deductible gifts to be
given to the Kiwanis Club of Daytona Beach and their many community endeavors,
foremost of which is the Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship Awards program. Started
by A.J. Fleming and run by him for over 50 years until his passing at age 103,
the Kiwanis Club of Daytona Beach has provided scholarships over the years to
hundreds of local high school seniors to help them get off to a good start in
college. Many of these students would never have been able to attend college
without the Daytona Beach Kiwanis Club's help. On average the Club awards 10 to
12 scholarships per year. Only Daytona Beach area high
school seniors are allowed to submit an application.
Scholarship applications can be received at the school's guidance counselor's
office or by call committee chairman Larry McDermott at 386-274-6020.
Scholarships are for the student's first year in college only. One-half is
paid at the time of selection and the second half after the student's first
semester in college with a copy of the students first semester's grades and
class standing.
